OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has launched a new web browser called ChatGPT Atlas, marking its bold move to challenge Google’s Chrome and other major browsers.
Unlike traditional browsers, Atlas removes the familiar address bar and is designed around ChatGPT itself. This means users can browse the web and search for information through natural conversation instead of typing URLs or keywords. The browser is now available for Mac users through Apple’s macOS.

OpenAI said Atlas includes a special feature called Agent Mode, available only to paying ChatGPT subscribers. This mode allows the AI to search the web automatically and provide faster, more relevant results based on what the user is doing online.
The launch comes as OpenAI looks for more ways to expand and earn from its growing base of ChatGPT users. The company has also partnered with platforms like Etsy, Shopify, Expedia, and Booking.com to integrate AI features directly into online shopping and travel booking experiences.
Experts believe tech enthusiasts and early adopters will likely try out Atlas first, though analysts remain unsure if it can rival Chrome’s dominance anytime soon. Still, with more users turning to AI-powered tools for answers, OpenAI’s latest move shows it wants to be at the center of the next generation of online browsing.
