PH Gov’t Commits (Faster) Internet To Isolated And Disadvantaged Areas

Listen to article

The Philippine Government is undergoing an initiative to provide internet to isolated and disadvantaged areas. The current efforts are being directed at Eastern Visayas, where many still experience connection issues, if there is internet to begin with.

President Marcos had this to say: “I took note of the issues on the internet. We have decided on the system that we are going to use for the internet, to distribute to the GIDAs (Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas) internet service.”

The plan is to put up more fiber optic towers within the country. Thanks to modern technologies, it would be possible to just have satellites in certain areas where it would be next-to-impossible to construct a tower. With this, even far-flung areas will be able to access the internet.

These efforts are also backed by Samar Governor Sharee Ann Tan, who added that better internet would greatly alleviate the stresses experienced by the education sector within these affected areas. It truly appears that this government has prioritized providing internet connectivity for as many citizens as possible, with another example being the DICT Free WiFi policy revamp.

Billions of pesos are being invested into internet infrastructure within these next years. What do you think about it?
