Probe sought over slow and costly internet services

Listen to article

A congressional investigation into the costly, slow, and difficult-to-use internet services in the Philippines is being pushed by lawmakers.

Leyte Representative Ferdinand Martin Romualdez and other House leaders stated that numerous Filipinos experience internet connectivity problems despite the existence of the Konektadong Pinoy Act as a new legislative measure. The deputy speakers, David Suarez and Jay Khonghun, submitted House Resolution No. 823, which requests the Committee on Information and Communications Technology to evaluate internet service reliability, performance metrics, pricing structures, and user privacy safeguards.

The lawmakers stated that 48.8% of Filipino households had access to home internet in 2024, while more than half of the population remained without internet access or insufficient service. The Philippines continues to lag behind multiple Asian countries because its internet service remains slower and more expensive, which creates negative effects for students, workers, and families throughout the country.
