PLDT, Globe to sign agreement to lower interconnection rate for voice calls

The country’s top telcos, PLDT and Globe, are expected to sign an agreement to lower the interconnection rate between networks which will make calls cheaper for subscribers.

According to Inquirer’s report, PLDT and Globe will sign the deal that will lower the interconnection rate for voice calls from Php4.00 per minute to Php2.50 per minute across-the-board starting January 1, 2017.

Current mobile to mobile and landline to mobile voice call rate is at Php4.00 per minute while mobile to landline is at Php3.00 per minute.

The signing is expected to happen this morning and will include the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) officials as witnesses.

    According to my wife’s monthly Smart postpaid statement, mobile to mobile calls are Php 7.5/minute tax included. The president is justified in opening the telecom market to other investors because competition isn’t working enough to benefit the Filipinos.
