Xiaomi denies Chinese military connection

Xiaomi Corporation has been recently added as one of the nine Chinese firms in the US blacklist of alleged Chinese military companies. Xiaomi, however, denies the allegations of having any affiliation with the Chinese military.

The company has released a clarification statement about the said matter, indicating that Xiaomi is not owned, controlled, nor affiliated with the Chinese military. Xiaomi has also mentioned that it is compliant with the law, and it is operating in compliance with the concerning laws and regulations of jurisdictions where it runs its businesses. See the statement below.

The U.S. Department of Defense recently includes Xiaomi Corporation to its list of “Communist Chinese military companies.” Trump’s Executive Order, which took effect on January 11, 2021, prevents U.S. investors from investing in the listed companies by November 11, 2021.

Meanwhile, Xiaomi has denied any association with the Chinese military. The company also mentioned taking appropriate actions to protect the company and its shareholders.

I wouldn’t trust any authoritarian, repressive government. China has detained over 1 million Uighur Muslims and placed them in internment camps. Video smuggled out of the country reveals the Uighur people are being used as slave labor. I would never buy any device made in China, even if it was less expensive and had better features than a device made in a South Korea, Taiwan, Japan, etc.
