YouTube secretly using AI to edit videos without creators’ consent

YouTube has confirmed that they’re experimenting with AI-powered video processing, altering Shorts content without notifying creators. Initially reported by BBC, several creators cited their concerns with visual changes in their uploads.

This included Music creator Rick Beato, who said his videos made him seem look like had strange hair and that he was wearing makeup. There’s also Rhett Shull, who slammed YouTube for ‘terrible over-sharpening’, making his content appear AI-generated.

YouTube described their actions as efforts to ‘improve clarity’ through machine learning methods. They likened it to smartphone filters, which sharpens images, smoothens skin, and reduces visual noise.
