Samsung Galaxy Tab Gingerbread 2.3 Update

Samsung Galaxy Tab Gingerbread 2.3 Update

So it looks like the Samsung Galaxy Tab is also getting the Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread update as well. The update came along with the one for Galaxy S which we reported last week, according to several readers who left comments.

According to a reader, the update comes via Samsung Kies and took about 50 minutes to 1:20 minutes of installation time.

If you have the Galaxy Tab and already upgraded to Gingerbread, please share with us your experience.

much snappier and more fluid than stock froyo… the browser is also much more faster than the old one. the battery is longer than expected.

  2. Patrick says:

Got my Gingerbread update yesterday. I wasn’t able to take note of the time, but it really took long, especially the backing up part. After completing the upgrade, my tab was hanging so I had to restart it a couple of times. Eventually it became normal again.

  3. Lester Bambico says:

    wow what late news >_<
the update was available more than a month ago, May 4, 2011 to be exact (that's the european firmware which works anyway without bugs)
as for the Asian firmware its long been available since May 20

    • Paul says:

wow yabang naman, this is the OFFICIAL ASIAN UPDATE to the SGT via KIES,, a lot of us have already updated to 2.3.3 using the EUROPEAN UPDATE as is or as was modified which was made available last month pa. But this announcement is for the USUAL user dependent on SAMSUNG KIES for updating. Nayayabangan talaga ako ng ganyang mga comment and its not as if you made your own ROM, but rather leeched from the foremost update site for Android Development.

    • gadhou says:

hahaha, lakas mangasar ni lester. pero bro mali ka nga nman, yuga is just trying to inform those who may not be aware of it. and besides, you better get your facts straight. the 1st gingerbread was available april 27 released in europe, FW was XWJMP. In Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam, it was released on may 19th, not the 20th, firmware was DXJPC.

  4. fr0stbyte says:

Installed a custom ROM based on the European firmware 3 weeks ago. XD

  5. wreek888 says:

Updated my tab for at least one hour. Wala naman nabura sa lahat ng apps ganun pa din kasi back up muna ng tab mas mabilis ngayun at smooth ang browsing parang ipad , me mga bagong wallpaper na pang gingerbread at color ng baterry turn into green.

  6. finally meron na ding update for galaxy tab…lol!

  7. jcnjcjcnjc says:

Around 30mins, make sure you have 50% or more battery left. Faster than 2.2,but have to reboot much often due to slower touch response when use more than a day.

  8. Marcus says:

Had to reinstall flash 10.3 since it was not working properly after the update. Other than that its been smooth sailing. Also try selecting the firmware version in the settings > about.

  9. jediekins says:

should i get a 7″ galaxy tab or should i wait for the 10″?

  10. BlackAce says:

  12. eleveeen says:

GUYS HELP! Please. I want to upgrade my Tab. Pero sabi kailangan daw ng at least 3000MB. I don’t get it. Bagong bili ko lang ng Tab ko. Wala pang 2 days so wala pa halos laman yung Tab ko.

Any HELP would do. Thanks I want to upgrade to 2.3 already. Excited na ako. :)

  13. Josh says:

Guys, is there any Samsung Kies for Mac? Found a Beta Version but whenever I try to update my Tablet, the prompt is always “Firmware related features will be available in the official version of the Samsung Kies for Mac” But where is it? Any idea?

    • Gadhou says:

Try using kies air. Its available sa market kung wala sa samsung apps. Di ko lang sure kung pede for update. Doesn’t hurt if you give it a try. (nksangla pa laptop ko eh, hehehe) :-(

    • Josh says:

Thank you sir. I actually updated mine using a window-based laptop. Did not want to complicate things further.

  14. JoBo says:

updated to gingerbread yesterday without doing the backup, good thing nothing went missing after the update. ;)

in my case, “affected” apps are:

    – amazon kindle: had to sign-in again using my registered username and password before i could get back to my reading. after signing in, all bookmarks were preserved, so nothing changed in my books.

    – app market: the “top paid” choice went missing, leaving only “top free” and “just in” as the choices. i’m not worried, however, since i had earlier encountered this when i first used my tab that i bought in the philippines abroad. it took about a few days for the app market to sync to my new location before all choices became available, so i’m expecting things to go back to normal in a few days.

the update process itself took a few tries before running completely, and only took one reboot for gingerbread to run nearly flawlessly.

  15. NemOry says:

@sir Abe super astig po ng update sa gingerbread especially ang power management niya at ang stick browser. pero I noticed the 3D graphics parang di nag enhance, mas lalong nag choppy, but I don’t know sa iba kung gnun din. chaka yung charging niya may bug. If it gets full, and I disconnect the charger, you can see the battery come back again to like 95 percent na may one bar ulit, tas ni reconect ko naman, nag 100percent again then disconnected then ganun parin. I dont know why. pero overall I love the improvements than froyo malakas kumain ng battery at madali mg init.

    • gadhou says:

di pa lang calibrated battery mo. ganyan talaga pag nag update from a different rom, may info pa galing sa froyo. you can get battery calibrator from the market. mag normalize din yan after 2-3 charge cycles (100%-0,0-100%)

    • jcnjcjcnjc says:

I agree, 3D and touch response a bit choppy sometimes, so I turn off animated wallpaper. Maybe its more power hungry?

  16. NemOry says:

@eleeven please leave some extra 3mb space sa phne storage.. :)

@jobo sakin no problem ang market..
and good thing nga sa internal storage d na wipe out..

New in Galaxy Tab 7″ 2.3.3 Gingerbread Update

    1. Smooth and Fast – In general they fix the Bugs in scrolling and changing screen much much faster that Froyo in Gingerbread you will see the Tablet much faster.

    2. New Icons and Widget – Cool i like that they chance some drawing much cooler editing and with the Blue bar gone and change in Green Bar it is more like Androidy, with this i can get a load of thinking i got a cool Tablet.

    3. New Application – Calculator, Sketch memo, and Social Hub Application and pulse and Downloads and the Updated Default Browser MUCH MUCH MUCH GOOD UPDATE ever with the faster scrolling and the smoothness its like a dream update but still i much prefer the Google Chrome Style that will come at Android 3.1 Honeycomb but hey still great update.

In Short now Samsung Galaxy Tab 7″ is the Most Powerful Tablet i can see now a days even with the comparison with the iPad2 it can’t even play 1080p Video in the default player. but Still Disclaimer this is my only opinion.

But there is still the thing about what is the people look for but for me i like SGT 7″.

    • Aaron says:

Sir Yuga Thanks for the fast Post about the topic so SGT people will have more fun with there Tab.

  18. makoy91 says:

my tab is now fast unlike before. i have a question though, is its healthy for my tab to have hundreds of apps installed in it? or do i have to delete apps cause its dangerous? thanks and more power! :D

  19. anson says:

after the update to GINGERBREAD , it was working perfectly . but after a reboot everything becomes BAD the touch screen becomes sluggish , it hangs , orientation becomes delayed .
the standard theme becomes mono tone and fix font size .
i hope samsung ph reads my complain and hope they can fix the bugs !

  20. Aaron says:

Just a Tip for my own Experience:

    1. Reformat Samsung Galaxy Tab 7″ – Still safer and more easy to Update.

    2. Reformat SD Card – Much better to delete all file and back up music and videos and file only like picture and document so you can recopy them later.

    3. Remove Sim Card – Kinda wanna be safe if you broke it is your own fault so much better to do the obvious.

    4. Install new Kies – after installing the new Kies Plug your USB Calbe in the PC and select Samsung Kies in the USB Option wait for the Samsung Drivers to install all after that in the Tab you will see a Firmware Update just update make sure your internet and your pc only is connected no Flash Drive or any external. for my case only mouse and keyboard and Tab no more other stuff.

Took me 1:30 minutes then after that a prompt message that you will need to Restart then Disconnect cable then reconnect it after that wait for Kies to install the new Samsung Drivers and if that is done in the Tab press the home Kies or Disconnect Tab in Kies and your Done. With this much Smooth and Fast 2.3.3 Gingerbread.

    • gadhou says:

another way is to download the firmware @, use odin for flashing. there are guides available there for flashing different roms, although you need to DL the rom and odin (the flahing program) and the pit file.
the flashing of firmware is quick, it’ll only take time to download the rom. you will have to save apps and data (not system file) by third party apps (titanium backup recommended)

  21. Prinz says:

I’d recommend using Kies pa rin to update. I tried flashing the rom via Odin and I encountered E driver errors and a problem setting the CSC to XTC (Philippine firmware).

  22. Angelo says:

Updated my SGT to Gingerbread using ODIN and the Italian ROM. Its very good. But now that I want the official one for Philippines, I get the message “This version of the device cannot be updated”. Flashed back to Froyo DXKM2 but still get the message from Kies. Anyone have a solution? Thanks

    • gadhou says:

i suggest uninstall kies, then reinstall. update kies and see if it’ll allow you to update it.

  23. diyords says:

got an auto update from froyo to gingerbread… (but not on a samsung unit)…

Aside from faster and more efficient, the camera focus gets faster as well. :)

  24. Huy says:

Memo did not work any more

  25. Michael Ocana says:

Way better than froyo… thanks Samsung for the support. Hope that this update is also available in the Wifi version..

  26. Aaron says:

Almost too good but can manage i just found new cool updates and some icon bug update but not in performance so here it is:

Music when in view mode of the Album Picture if you press the 3 Lines at the upper right area it will turn into the play list but not the default one it will over lap the image and transparent the list on it. – Cool

When Music plays on Background when going to the notification area you will see the music playing and you can play pause forward or rewind so much easier to change music no need to exit the current app for example Doing Browser dont like the music do pull down the notification bar then change it. Much more easier for me.

Typing i really dont know if this is a update but on the last time i never notice that when you type a letter will pop up and really cool even pressing backspace or go or send just really cool. – if this happen on the Old Froyo never mind this.

Camera Problem for some reason my of Froyo Firmware get a wired problem when i play to much video and use camera i cant see the image but some bits of image of the last picture now for dont get that error so yey Gingerbread.

Now Icon Bugs. bit disappointing of when not in landscape mode you get cool Icons on Battery, Signal, and Even the Digital clock its like enhance Icons but when you play a video or music the battery and the time get back to the old Blue and Bold Style Digital clock sometimes its ok but i notice it now so bad SOB SOB. For now that is the icon i notice wish there’s no more else.

Finally i just update my Flash to 10.3 and playing flash video in anime site becomes more faster and smoother. SUPER NICE.

  27. ram says:

Namamatay ba ang galaxy tab nyo pag nag-take ng picture with camera flash kapag 25% na lang ang battery? Napansin ko lang kasi pag walang camera flash, ok naman, pero pag may camera flash, namamatay ang galaxy tab. Please give me any response. Thanks.

any news on the gingerbread update for the htc desire? I’ve heard meron na sa Europe but haven’t confirmed if meron na sa Asia, specifically here in the Philippines.. Thanks!

    • Gadhou says:

Htc desire lng b or desire hd? Kung desire po walang official gingerbread n irerelease ang htc. You’ll need to resort to ported na gingerbread.

    • Maki says:

thanks! but now i heard that they are going to push thru with the update for the desire.. i think they are going to work around the problem.. is this really going happen?

    Hi every one,

KIES keeps telling me I have the latest update of the firmware… but I’m still with the original Froyo 2.2.
How can I force the upgrade ?
I bought my Tab in Thailand and I am in Indonesia now, so I would guess I have an “Asian” model.

I’ve already tried resetting the tab but I am still getting the same message. Please help! thanks!

    • jun says:

did you update your kies? if not go to help & check for update disconnect your TAB disable your PC firewall & all your running program. next go to settings in to your Galaxy TAB select wireless & network then USB settings select mass storage.after you update your kies reboot your pc. open your kies & connect your samsung galaxy tab there should be a pop-up message appear “there is a new version would you like to update” clik update & follow instruction . hope this can help

  34. Bryan says:

My Kies keeps saying “This device cannot be updated.” :( I didn’t root my device. What’s up? Is this already available for all GT units in the Philippines?

  35. migz says:

I tried to update the GT-P1000 a few days ago using Kies and it got soft bricked. So I went to Samsung Service to have it fix. The technician told me never to do it on kies next time. Just it bring to them for updates.

Also, it seems that even if the tab is showing the PC-Error-Device screen as long as Odin can see it then you can flash it.

  36. REMF says:

hi i have the same problem too. but i found a solution. (Singapore Galaxy Tab owners – no need to go to service center)

1 first back up (very important)

2 check your region using *#272*IMEI# (mine is XSP Singapore)

3 then i change it to XTC (Philippines)

4 it will make factory reset

    5 update you kies

6 plug it and ready to upgrade

7 after the upgrade you can return it back to the previous region (no. 2) (optional)

    8 restore back up

9 download all your previous apps.

    then enjoy……….

    • REMF says:

this instruction will only be use to all who experiencing “the version of the device cannot be updated” on kies

    • REMF says:

Everything works fine for me. i haven’t encounter any problem after the updates. im very very satisfied on what i have experimented. battery goes longer, transition is perfect. apps are great.

i would recommend that you use my instruction. (onlt for those who experiencing “the version of the device cannot be updated” on kies)

  37. voyageR-3 says:

after the upgrade via Kies, the problem with the camera was fixed. some icons were changed (battery, etc.), some apps added (calculator, etc.), general change in UI color.

    1. gyro-sensor not working, went haywire until now
    2. orientation change takes too long
    3. battery still charges abnormally (almost the same before the upgrade — sometimes turns off even when there is still 50% charge.

can i try to re-install? how is this done from kies?

  38. wired032 says:
