For many adult users, Discord can already determine age group through its internal age inference system, allowing access to adult features without any additional steps. Facial age estimation runs entirely on a user’s device, and video scans are never sent to Discord or third parties. If an ID is used, it is checked only to confirm age and then deleted. Discord states that it receives only the user’s age group, not their identity. The company says the update is part of its broader effort to create safer, age-appropriate experiences while protecting user privacy.
