Amazon has officially announced that it will discontinue the Amazon AppStore for Android on August 20, 2025. On this date, access to the Appstore on Android devices will cease, though the exact behavior post-shutdown remains unspecified. The Amazon Appstore launched as an alternative to the Google Play Store, struggled to gain significant traction in the Android ecosystem. Users relying on the Amazon Appstore for app downloads and updates are advised to transition to other platforms, such as the Google Play Store, to ensure continued access and support. X (formerly, Twitter) has rolled out a rebuilt version of its Android app after nearly a year of development. Nikita Bier, Head of Product at X, announced that the company rebuilt the app from scratch, calling it "one of the largest engineering efforts in the company's history." Bier also noted some improvements remain in progress, including better performance on older Android devices and support for hosting Spaces on Android.
