Listen to article

Amazon has officially announced that it will discontinue the Amazon AppStore for Android on August 20, 2025.

On this date, access to the Appstore on Android devices will cease, though the exact behavior post-shutdown remains unspecified. Along with this closure, the Amazon Coins program is also being terminated.

As of February 20, 2025, Amazon Coins are no longer available for purchase. Users with existing Coin balances are encouraged to utilize them before the August deadline. Amazon has stated that any remaining Coins after this date will be refunded, with further details to be provided in due course.

The Amazon Appstore launched as an alternative to the Google Play Store, struggled to gain significant traction in the Android ecosystem. This decision reflects Amazon’s strategic shift to reallocate resources to other ventures.

Users relying on the Amazon Appstore for app downloads and updates are advised to transition to other platforms, such as the Google Play Store, to ensure continued access and support.
