Amazon has officially announced that it will discontinue the Amazon AppStore for Android on August 20, 2025. On this date, access to the Appstore on Android devices will cease, though the exact behavior post-shutdown remains unspecified. The Amazon Appstore launched as an alternative to the Google Play Store, struggled to gain significant traction in the Android ecosystem. Users relying on the Amazon Appstore for app downloads and updates are advised to transition to other platforms, such as the Google Play Store, to ensure continued access and support. Google is expanding Gemini’s agentic features, allowing the AI to perform actions directly on Android apps. Microsoft has started rolling out an upgraded Android app mirroring experience on Windows 11, allowing users to view Android apps using nearly the entire desktop screen through the Phone Link app. The new feature, called Expanded screen, lets Android apps take up around 90% of the display, moving beyond the previously limited phone-sized portrait view. While the experience isn’t fully edge-to-edge yet, leaving a small portion of the desktop unused, it significantly improves multitasking for users who rely on Android apps alongside Windows workflows.
