DICT launches “eGov App on Wheels” for remote, hard-to-access areas

Marking its 10th anniversary alongside National ICT Month, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) has officially deployed its newest digital inclusion initiative, the “Walang Iwanan Caravan: eGov Super App on Wheels.” The rolling caravan targets Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged Areas (GIDAs) across the country to bring paperless public services straight to remote provincial communities.

To bypass long-standing infrastructure bottlenecks and total signal dead zones, the mobile service hubs are heavily outfitted with specialized satellite-powered connectivity terminals. This allows the DICT to set up high-speed internet access points anywhere in the field, enabling residents to interface directly with state digital platforms without needing to travel to municipal city centers.

The primary objective of the mobile caravan is to drive localized adoption of the eGovPH app, which serves as the government’s centralized, one-stop-shop operating system for national and local agency transactions. Through the satellite-connected mobile hubs, field personnel can assist provincial residents with real-time digital identity verification, navigating the unified digital National ID wallet, and processing transactions across integrated agencies.

DICT officials emphasized that the deployment is heavily modeled after successful international citizen-centric systems like Singapore’s Singpass and Australia’s myGov. By embedding satellite data networks directly into mobile vehicle configurations, the agency aims to scale up the app’s user base (which already registers tens of millions of downloads) while ensuring that marginalized sectors and indigenous communities are not left behind in the country’s aggressive push toward comprehensive e-governance.

DICT-Cordillera Regional Director Jimmicio Daoaten said this: “As we continue in building a Bagong Pilipinas, the DICT remains committed to creating a digitally empowered nation where no Filipino, no Cordilleran is left behind.”
