Apple has introduced two new chips, M5 Pro and M5 Max, designed to power the latest MacBook Pro models and handle heavy professional workloads such as video editing, 3D rendering, and AI processing. The chips were announced as part of Apple’s latest update to its Apple silicon lineup. Both chips are built using a new Fusion Architecture, which combines two chip dies into a single system on a chip. Apple said this design can improve performance by up to 30 percent for professional workloads compared with the previous generation. For graphics, the chips include a next-generation GPU with a Neural Accelerator in every core. Apple said the design increases GPU compute power for AI tasks by more than four times compared with the previous generation. The chips also support higher unified memory. Apple also added new technologies across both chips, including a 16-core Neural Engine, an updated Media Engine for video processing, and built-in Thunderbolt 5 controllers for faster data transfer.
