Waze rolls out Motorcycle Mode, Philippines among first markets to get it

Listen to article

Waze has announced a new Motorcycle Mode designed specifically for riders, with the Philippines included among the first countries to receive the feature.

The new mode uses artificial intelligence alongside Waze’s real-time traffic data and motorcycle-focused map editors to provide routes that better suit two-wheelers. Unlike standard car navigation, Motorcycle Mode takes into account motorcycle-accessible shortcuts, road restrictions, and other route considerations to provide more accurate directions and estimated arrival times.

It also alerts riders to road hazards that are particularly important for motorcycles, including potholes, speed bumps, raised crosswalks, shoulder endings, and narrow bridges.

Motorcycle Mode is rolling out now on both Android and iOS in the Philippines, Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Malaysia, Mexico, and Peru, with additional markets expected to follow.

Alongside Motorcycle Mode, Waze is introducing several new AI-powered features powered by Google’s Gemini.

The app is expanding its Conversational Reporting feature, allowing users to report road closures, outdated addresses, and other map updates using natural voice commands. The reports are then reviewed by local map editors before being added to the map.

Waze is also testing a new Gemini-powered voice search feature with beta users. Instead of searching by exact locations, users can ask conversational questions such as finding nearby coffee shops that are currently open, the closest parking area, or the nearest gas station with the lowest fuel prices.

Another new addition is Personalized Navigation, which recommends routes based not only on current traffic conditions but also on a driver’s previous route preferences. Users who prefer highways over local roads, for example, will see those routes suggested first. The feature can also be disabled through the app’s settings.

For users who prefer fewer interruptions while driving, Waze is also launching a global “Less Chatty” mode. The setting reduces the number of voice prompts while continuing to provide essential navigation alerts such as turns, lane guidance, and road hazards.

The new features are now rolling out in stages for Android and iOS users.
