Apple has introduced two new chips, M5 Pro and M5 Max, designed to power the latest MacBook Pro models and handle heavy professional workloads such as video editing, 3D rendering, and AI processing. The chips were announced as part of Apple’s latest update to its Apple silicon lineup. Apple also added new technologies across both chips, including a 16-core Neural Engine, an updated Media Engine for video processing, and built-in Thunderbolt 5 controllers for faster data transfer. According to Apple, the new chips are designed to help MacBook Pro users run demanding applications while keeping power efficiency high as part of the company’s plan to reduce energy use and reach carbon neutrality by 2030.
