Apple has announced that longtime executive John Ternus will become its next chief executive officer, replacing Tim Cook after more than a decade at the helm. Ternus, currently Apple’s head of hardware engineering, will officially take over as CEO on September 1, while Cook transitions to the role of executive chairman. Cook has led Apple since 2011, following the resignation of co-founder Steve Jobs. He will remain CEO through the summer to oversee the leadership transition and will continue supporting the company in a strategic role, including engagement with global policymakers. Ternus is a veteran within Apple, having worked on major products such as the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and AirPods. He also played a key role in Apple’s transition to its own silicon chips. While Cook is credited with scaling Apple’s business and driving financial growth, critics have noted a lack of breakthrough products comparable to the iPhone in recent years.
