Apple has launched a Digital ID that can be created through the Apple Wallet. It uses information from the US passport as an alternative to present an ID through iPhones or Apple Watches. Apple says it’s a secure way for users to make an ID. As per Apple, it’s accepted at TSA checkpoints across 250 airports in the US for domestic travel. Apple says that the Digital ID will be accepted in ‘select businesses and organizations for identity and age verification’ in the future. Data from the ID is encrypted and is stored on-device, and Apple can’t see when or where you present it. Its introduction follows the option of adding a driver’s license or state ID to the Apple Wallet in 2022. With the arrival of Google Pay and possible arrival of Apple Pay in the Philippines, the Digital ID could be a useful identification alternative.
