(AFPI), developed a modernized fare and tracking system for the transport sector. Under the partnership, AFPI will bundle its Automatic Fare Collection System (AFCS) with PLDT Enterprise’s Smart Tracker solution powered by Vectras to provide complete fleet management and fare collection solution to public transport operators. Public transport operators now have the option to get fleet management and fare collection functionality from AFPI without the need to contract with multiple suppliers. The strategic partnership aims to make it easier for public transport operators to meet the demand for effective fleet management and modern fare collection. This makes the commuting experience more convenient for the public, providing more fare payment options and better vehicle scheduling and passenger information systems. Several companies, including GCash, Visa, and Mastercard, have shown interest in the Philippine government’s plan to create a single fare payment system for trains and other transport. The project is called the Philippine Automated Fare Collection System (PAFCS) and is expected to be bid out by the Department of Transportation (DOTr) before the end of the year.
