However, as sad as it is, many of the donation campaigns were scams according to a report by TRM, a blockchain research firm. Based on TRM’s data that it had collected from 50 crypto donation campaigns for Ukraine. TRM had stated that about half of them were “obvious scams”. Other scams were in the form of QR code donation links, fake sites, and fake chats. The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is warning the public on unauthorized investments surrounding cryptocurrency trading and online selling - specifically noting Forsage, RCashOnline, and the Saint John of Jerusalem Knights of Malta Foundation of the Philippines, Inc. Additionally, the Bayanihan to Heal As One Act also punishes those that make use or take advantage of the current crisis to prey on the public through scams, phishing, fraud, or other similar acts.
