Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that all new PlayStation games released from January 2028 onward will be available only in digital format, ending the production of physical disc editions for future titles. According to Sony, the decision reflects the growing preference for digital game purchases. The company said downloadable versions have significantly outpaced physical discs in recent years, prompting the shift to digital-only releases. Sony also shared that physical game discs accounted for only 5% of its game software revenue during the fiscal year that ended in March, while digital sales made up the majority of purchases.
