Today, the Department of Transportation-Land Transportation Office (DOTr-LTO) rolled out driver’s license cards with five-year validity at the LTO main office on East Avenue, Quezon City. Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade congratulates LTO chief Edgar Galvante in addressing the problem of driver's license card processing. Galvante mentioned that those who will apply for new driver's license and those who will renew old ones will receive their plastic cards on the same day. A comparison between the 3-year validity driver's license cards, and the 5-year validity driver's license cards were also shown during the official rollout. Galvante said that the new plastic license cards, which are laser engraved and made of polycarbonate material, are not only durable but also have several security features. A local advocacy group called Flag Maharlika has just revealed a critical weakness in our local PH driver's license system. This means it has full access to all private information and can print PH driver's licenses of any holder anytime, from halfway across the globe. To address this concern, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) has reiterated that motorists may present a valid electronic driver’s license (e-DL) as an alternative to the physical card.
