The issue has raised concerns because the LTMS handles services such as driver’s licenses, vehicle registrations, and other records used by millions of motorists. A local advocacy group called Flag Maharlika has just revealed a critical weakness in our local PH driver's license system. To put it simply, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) tasked an international firm Dermalog to be one of the primary handlers of the country's Driver’s License Inventory and Printing Application Modules. This means it has full access to all private information and can print PH driver's licenses of any holder anytime, from halfway across the globe. Have you ever been flagged down by a traffic enforcer for an alleged violation, only to realize you forgot to bring your physical driver’s license? In such situations, motorists often fear being cited not only for the original offense, but also for driving without a valid driver’s license—even if they are, in fact, licensed. While this may later be downgraded to failure to carry a driver’s license upon presentation of the physical card at the Land Transportation Office (LTO), the inconvenience and stress remain unavoidable. To address this concern, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) has reiterated that motorists may present a valid electronic driver’s license (e-DL) as an alternative to the physical card.
