AMD has announced that it has expanded its EPYC processor-based offerings with the availability of the new Amazon EC2 Hpc6a instances, which are purpose built for high performance computing (HPC) workloads in the clouds. “We’re excited to continue our collaboration with AMD and add another crucial AMD EPYC instance to the Amazon EC2 portfolio.” The instances powered by 3rd Gen AMD EPYC processors are available today in the US, with availability in other regions coming soon. [table id=1294 /] These new APUs are designed similarly to AMD's desktop processors, with eight cores split between two CCX units communicating over the infinity fabric. The company is marketing their new 8th gen processors for gamers, content creators, and overclockers, promising better overclocking, content creation and gaming. This family will come with unlocked "K" processors, 12MB of Intel Smart Cache and up to 40 PCIe 3.0 lanes. They also revealed the new chipset that will support these processors -- The Z370. Intel is promising that the 8th gen processors provide 25% better gaming performance and 32% faster render speeds than the previous generation. These i7 and i5 series of processors will also feature Intel's Turbo Boost Technology 2.0 allowing boosts to single-core frequencies.
