Qualcomm just announced new advanced fingerprint sensors at the Mobile World Congress Shanghai 2017. The successor to the previous generation Qualcomm Snapdragon Sense technology, the new Qualcomm Fingerprint Sensors will be using advanced ultrasonic sensors. The list of features for these sensors includes scanning through OLED displays up to 1.2mm, 0.8mm of cover glass, 0.65mm of aluminum, underwater fingerprint match, and device wake-up. Qualcomm Fingerprint Sensors work both as integrated solutions for Qualcomm Snapdragon, and as standalone sensors for other platforms. Qualcomm Fingerprint Sensors for Glass and Metal are expected to be available for testing to manufacturers this month, with Qualcomm Fingerprint Sensors for Display being available to them in the fourth quarter of this year. We usually see fingerprint scanners at the back of a smartphone or embedded within the home button. This time, LG Innotek, an affiliate of the South Korean phone giant, announces that it has developed a new sensor that could be placed under the handset's display. The company has been proud in letting the people know that it was able to slip a fingerprint sensor into a tiny 0.01-inch space under the smartphone cover glass.
