#GCash Tap to Pay with NFC

The GCash Tap to Pay with NFC (Near Field Communication) feature has just rolled out, initially announced at Futurecast 2024. With the new pricing structure, all InstaPay transfers—regardless of amount—will now carry the ₱8 service fee, simplifying costs for users. Several banks and e-wallet providers in the Philippines currently offer free InstaPay and PESONet transfers either unli­mited or within set quotas, making digital payments and fund transfers more affordable across different user segments. The new option allows passengers to pay via QR code using GCash SoundPay, with the fare amount manually entered by the conductor based on travel distance. As of the initial rollout, 260 EDSA Busway units are already equipped with GCash SoundPay devices. GCash users can now start using Google Pay even without a physical card, as the e-wallet begins rolling out support for the service across the Philippines.
