Globe targets to build 200 new cell sites in Batangas this year as part of the telco’s sustained network builds. The province now has 361 Globe sites, 85% of which will have additional 4G capacity. To recall, since 2015, Globe has started replacing lead-acid batteries on its 105 cell sites in the province with lithium-ion batteries. Furthermore, Globe has installed Free Cooling System (FCS) to reduce dependency on air-conditioners to maintain the required temperatures in its cell sites in order to reduce electricity consumption. The company has installed 37 FCS in its cell sites in Batangas as of March 2021. Globe also secured a go-signal to build more cell towers on the following areas: Agusan Del Norte, Zamboanga Del Norte, Zamboanga Del Sur, Misamis Oriental, Nueva Ecija, Zambales, Maguindanao, Antique, Laguna, Palawan, Oriental Mindoro, Tarlac, South Cotabato, Isabela, and La Union. Globe has also mentioned its network upgrades and expansion including the aggressive building of cell towers, upgrading existing cell sites to LTE by increasing its frequencies, and fast-tracking of its fiber network in the country. An independent scientific organization has affirmed that proximity to cell sites does not cause any known health risks, contrary to what many homeowner associations (HOAs) in the Philippines believe.
