OpenAI has announced GPT-5.1, with its rollout starting with paid users. The company says the upgrade comes with the intent of making it easier to customize ChatGPT. However, enterprise and education customers have an early access period before GPT-5.1 becomes the default model. The GPT-5 model update promises faster responses, improved reasoning, and flexible controls for conversations. The update brings two variants, which include Instant and Thinking. Custom instructions across multi-turn conversations are now set to persist with the update. The surge now comes from agentic AI, semi-autonomous programs that browse and fetch pages for assistants like ChatGPT and Gemini. According to Anthropic, the updated model is designed to be a more reliable AI collaborator and is less likely to make unsupported claims.
