Globe Telecom has announced today its commercial activation of local interconnection in Tarlac between its landline service, Globelines, and PLDT. The local interconnection allows Globelines subscribers to call PLDT subscribers, and vice-versa, without having to pay for long distance charges. The move is in compliance with the compulsory interconnection of authorized public telecommunications carriers under Republic Act 7925 which aims to create a universally accessible and fully integrated nationwide telecommunications network to encourage more infrastructure investments from the private sector that would benefit the consumers. "We hope to provide local interconnection to all Globelines subscribers nationwide that is why we are always open to negotiations with other local exchange carriers. The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) has just implemented a memorandum to defer the migration of 7-digit to 8-digit landline numbers in area code 02 (Greater Manila) from March 2019 to October 2019 instead. The NTC signed a memorandum order 10-10-2017 last October, stating that telecommunication companies with operating landlines in Metro Manila must have a prefix to the seven-digit landline number. As ordered by the National Telecommunications Commission, all Metro Manila landlines will have an additional prefix number beginning this year, bringing the landline number digit to 8.
