The Department of Transportation's technical working group has announced that it has terminated its Motorcycle-Taxi study ahead of schedule. According to a report by ABS-CBN News, Gardiola also mentioned that the motorcycle-taxis could be considered illegal as "they are drawing their authority to run motorcycles because of the study." Due to the termination of the study, Gardiola stated that motorcycle-taxis running the roads can be apprehended beginning next week. Last December 2019, the TWG approved an extension of the motorcycle-taxi pilot study, scheduled to run from January to March 23, 2020. Maxim has joined the motorcycle taxi market in the Philippines, participating in a pilot project to develop this mode of transportation. The company announced that users can now avail their motorcycle taxi riding services via their mobile app. The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has recommended the termination of the five-year motorcycle taxi pilot program. LTFRB Chairman and motorcycle taxi Technical Working Group lead (TWG) Teofilo Guadiz said that no new operators should be accredited under the program. In that regard, the motorcycle taxi pilot study was launched in 2019.
