The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is introducing cashless payments for the Light Rail Transit (LRT) and Metro Rail Transit (MRT). We previously reported that this was already in effect via MRT-3 with payments in GCash/QRPh. To reiterate, the first phase of the cashless payments rollout will start next month. Pasig Mega Market now has satellite-powered internet to support cashless payments under the Paleng-QR Ph Plus program of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and the Department of Information and Communications Technology. The rollout is part of the Paleng-QR Ph Plus program, a joint effort of BSP and DICT to promote the use of QR Ph, the country’s standard system for cashless payments. GCash has partnered with government agencies to launch digital payment options for the MRT-3 line.
