Windows 8 is just a month away and Microsoft is preparing huge budgets for its public launch. The company has even offered upgraders a huge discount (just under $15) to move up to Windows 8 if they recently bought a computer. That doesn't seem to be the case for netbooks though. Problem is, Intel and netbook manufacturers have set the standard resolution of netbooks to just 1024x600 pixels. Microsoft has outlined 3 major reasons why they had to set the minimum resolution of Windows 8 to 1024x768 {see their blog post here}. They argue that only 1.2% of Windows 7 users have a screen resolution below 1024x768. This leaves netbook owners no option to upgrade to Windows 8. Either manufacturers are stuck with Windows 7 for the rest of the netbook's lifecycle or Intel will agree to increase the standards it has set for netbooks.
