I told my friend -- it's all about capacity, not speed. Customers vary from the regular surfers (Friendster) and chatters (YM) to the heavy users (YouTube) and the hard core (online/network gamers). So, what we do is concentrate on capacity -- bump up our bandwidth to 8Mbps and increase the number of work-stations from 10 seats to 20 seats. The 1Mbps plan allows them to handle a large capacity of subscribers without choking their network. Globe has partnered with Grab to improve its mobile network by collecting real-world data from daily trips across Metro Manila. The goal is to better understand how the network performs in actual conditions and fix areas with weak or unstable signal. Through this partnership, Grab driver-partners helped gather over 20,000 network samples during the survey period. It also gave a clearer picture of how the network performs during real rides, making the results more accurate than standard tests.
