Rakuten Viber, a global leader in private and secure messaging and voice-based communication, will soon launch its in-app digital payments feature Viber Pay in the Philippines. The proposed measure aims to create a nationwide digital payments system for transactions with the government and between private groups. The bill seeks to expand the use of digital payments in the country. Tinio said the bill does not clearly state who can access transaction data once digital payments become more common. Visa and GoTyme Bank have entered a multi-year partnership aimed at accelerating the adoption of digital payments in the Philippines, South Africa, and future Southeast Asian markets. Both companies said the collaboration is geared toward strengthening secure, seamless, and inclusive payment systems in emerging markets where digital transactions continue to rise. Visa Philippines Country Manager Jeffrey Navarro said the partnership aligns with Visa’s efforts to promote financial inclusion and broaden digital access.
