Samsung announced that a joint study with Chung-Ang University Gwangmyeong Hospital in Korea found that the Samsung Galaxy Watch6 can predict vasovagal syncope (VVS) or sudden fainting episodes using health data collected by the smartwatch. A joint clinical study with Chung-Ang University Gwangmyeong Hospital in Korea showed the Samsung Galaxy Watch6 can detect signs of VVS using data gathered by the smartwatch. Researchers used the Galaxy Watch6’s PPG sensor to monitor heart rate variability data and analyzed it using an AI algorithm. According to Samsung, the system was able to predict fainting episodes up to five minutes before they happened with 84.6% accuracy. “This study is an example of how wearable technology can help shift healthcare from being designed for ‘post-care’ to a model of ‘preventive care,’” Jongmin Choi, Head of Health R&D Group, Mobile eXperience (MX) Business, Samsung Electronics states.
