Numbers are in and according to SEC filings of PLDT and Globe, the two telcos made a combined net income of Php21.5 billion for the first half of 2016, ending June 30, 2016. Biggest loser is PLDT/Smart with a 33% drop in net income for the same period while Globe did a little better at 3% increase compared to the same period as last year. This is the biggest drop in net income for PLDT in a long time. I fired up several internet bandwidth meters, hooked up my Smart Bro Prepaid account and positioned my laptop to get an HSDPA signal. Launched just yesterday, Smart WiFi is a new broadband internet service which allows users to get connected wirelessly thru Smart's cell sites. For the last quarter of 2023 alone, Smart recorded a 16% increase in monthly data traffic on their 5G network.
