The new sensor is expected to appear in smartphones launching later this year. Sony plans to begin mass production this summer, with smartphones using the sensor expected to launch in the fourth quarter of 2026. SmartSens has introduced a new flagship-grade smartphone camera sensor, aiming to push mobile photography and videography further with improved dynamic range, low-light performance, and high-frame-rate video. The new sensor, called the SC5A6XS, features a 1-inch optical format with 50MP resolution, positioning it among the largest sensors designed for smartphones. While it sits in the premium segment of compact cameras, the combination of a dual-camera system, 12x hybrid zoom in video / 9x max in photo, 1-inch sensor, mechanical stabilization, and improved tracking positions it as one of the more versatile pocket cameras in its class. The Osmo Pocket 4P features a dual-camera setup consisting of a 20mm f/2.0 wide-angle camera with a 1-inch CMOS sensor and a 60mm f/1.8 telephoto camera with a 1/1.28-inch CMOS sensor.
