The new sensor is expected to appear in smartphones launching later this year. Sony plans to begin mass production this summer, with smartphones using the sensor expected to launch in the fourth quarter of 2026. SmartSens has introduced a new flagship-grade smartphone camera sensor, aiming to push mobile photography and videography further with improved dynamic range, low-light performance, and high-frame-rate video. The new sensor, called the SC5A6XS, features a 1-inch optical format with 50MP resolution, positioning it among the largest sensors designed for smartphones. The compact gimbal camera combines a 1-inch main sensor with a dedicated 60mm telephoto camera, offering up to 3x optical zoom, 6x lossless zoom, and 12x digital zoom. Aside from the special design, the camera retains the standard GO Ultra's key features such as a 1/1.28-inch sensor, 4K video recording, a 156-degree ultra-wide field of view and Insta360's magnetic mounting system.
