Globe announced that it has received the GSMA Open Gateway Certification for its upcoming Number Verification API, confirming that the telco has fully complied with the global technical specifications (Version 1.0). The Number Verification API is designed to help strengthen digital transaction security in the Philippines by preventing fraudulent activities such as account takeovers and fake account creation. Once deployed, the service will allow financial institutions and enterprises to leverage Globe’s network for real-time mobile number verification, adding an extra layer of authentication for transactions. DITO Telecommunity has launched Silent Network Authentication, a technology that allows digital platforms to verify users directly through the mobile network without relying on SMS one-time passwords (OTPs). The authentication method verifies a user’s identity through the telecom network itself, reducing dependence on traditional SMS-based verification that has become vulnerable to SIM-swap attacks and message interception. According to DITO Chief Commercial Officer Adel Tamano, the technology strengthens mobile transaction security by shifting verification away from older authentication methods. Silent Network Authentication allows digital services such as banking apps, fintech platforms, and online services to confirm a user’s identity through network-level verification instead of sending OTP codes. DITO said the technology could help address increasing fraud cases involving SMS-based authentication, particularly in mobile banking and digital payments.
