Qualcomm has announced two next-generation spatial computing platforms, the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 and the Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1. Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 The Snapdragon XR Gen 2 mashes both MR and VR technology into a single chip that will be seen on slimmer and more comfortable headsets that won't be needing an external battery pack. Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 The Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 on the other hand is designed for sleek, lightweight smart glasses to allow capture, share, and live-stream directly from the glasses hands-free. Both chips are developed closely in partnership with Meta which debuted their Meta Quest 3 which is powered by the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 and its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses that use the Snapdragon AR1 platform. On board, it uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, and OnePlus says it brings noticeable speed gains over the last generation.
