Qualcomm has announced two next-generation spatial computing platforms, the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 and the Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1.
Both of which will power the next generation of mixed reality (MR), virtual reality (VR), and smart glasses which will see on-device AI for more immersive and personalized experiences.

Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2
The Snapdragon XR Gen 2 mashes both MR and VR technology into a single chip that will be seen on slimmer and more comfortable headsets that won’t be needing an external battery pack.

Qualcomm says it’s engineered to deliver a lag-free experience and allow users to blend virtual content with their physical surroundings.
It’s also said to deliver significant performance with 2.5x higher GPU performance and 8x better performance with AI.
Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1
The Snapdragon AR1 Gen 1 on the other hand is designed for sleek, lightweight smart glasses to allow capture, share, and live-stream directly from the glasses hands-free.

Qualcomm also stated that its built-in AI will enable personal assistants for experiences such as real-time translation and visual search.
It also supports for a visual heads-up display for content consumption that sees videos blend seamlessly into one’s field of view.

Both chips are developed closely in partnership with Meta which debuted their Meta Quest 3 which is powered by the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 and its Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses that use the Snapdragon AR1 platform.
Qualcomm says that other manufacturers should follow in the next year.
