Qualcomm has announced the Snapdragon Wear Elite, a new processor designed for smartwatches and other wearable devices, bringing on-device AI features along with improved performance and battery life. According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon Wear Elite offers up to five times faster CPU performance and up to seven times better graphics performance compared with the previous Snapdragon W5+ Gen 2 chip. Snapdragon Wear Elite also includes a Hexagon NPU, which allows devices to run AI features directly on the device without relying heavily on the cloud. Qualcomm said devices powered by Snapdragon Wear Elite may support fast charging, allowing a smartwatch to reach 50% battery in less than 10 minutes. On board, it uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, and OnePlus says it brings noticeable speed gains over the last generation.
