Your Spotify feed will soon be much more different than it used to. One of the main highlights of Spotify’s Stream On event held on March 9 was the changes on its app user interface. The new interface apparently works the same way as TikTok or Instagram that utilize vertical scrolling combined with card-like stories. Wired quoted Simon Dyson, an Omdia music and digital audio analyst, that if a service such as Spotify can play audio instantly and has a correct algorithm, users will be engaged right away. Spotify has traditionally curated playlists for music discovery, but its new feature allows users to hear samples of songs and podcasts almost instantaneously as they scroll through their feed. Dyson believes this may reduce the need to skip shuffled playlists and help Spotify stand out in the audio streaming industry. Spotify has just removed lyrics from their users’ free account features. Spotify likely removed this feature in an effort to make an incentive for users to start paying for monthly subscriptions.
