Spotify announces new ‘Basic’ streaming plan in the US

Listen to article

Spotify has announced a new ‘Basic’ streaming plan in the United States, available for USD 10.99 per month.

The plan offers the usual ‘Premium’ plan additions, minus the monthly audiobook feature. This was announced by Spotify after they raised their Premium plan prices from USD 10.99 to 11.99 (~PHP 650-710).

As per this article, the price increase intends to aid cover the costs from their audiobook provisions. With the Basic plan, users can pay the usual USD 10.99 monthly, with access limited to music and podcasts.

The plan helps users who pay for the platform purely for its typical services. Sadly, the users who use the audiobooks inclusive in the Premium plan will have to shell out extra.

The platform is also working on introducing more subscription tiers to its users. A ‘Supremium’ tier is reportedly expected to offer high-fidelity audio. This tier is slated to be priced at least 5 dollars higher (~PHP 1,000) in comparison to the current Premium plan offered.

Meanwhile, in the Philippines, Spotify’s Premium plan is still currently priced at PHP 149 monthly. We have yet to uncover if these Western changes will affect our use of the service. However, we’ll update readers if these changes come around when details arrive.
