The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) have released the new timeline for the selection of the New Major Player (NMP) in the Philippines. Vodafone, a telecommunications company based in London, has expressed its interest in venturing as the third telco player in the Philippines. Budget and Management Secretary Benjamin Diokno said that the dialogue between the Philippine economics team and the Vodafone executives happened during their trip to London last week. Vodafone expressed its interest in applying as the third telco player and has been conducting its due diligence since February this year. Diokno also said that Vodafone may still enter the country even if a third telco player has already been identified. The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is set to conduct an invitation bid on October 7. Apparently, Vodafone representatives were in the Philippines to Smart Smart executives on key services and practices: The training sessions, held from February 14 to 16, 2012, were conducted by Vodafone's online team, and had Smart's senior management and online customer management team, among others, as participants.
