#WhatsApp end-to-end encryption

WhatsApp officially extends its end-to-end encryption (EE2E) for chat histories saved in Google Drive or iCloud. WhatsApp users can secure their EE2E backups with a personally generated password and 64-digit encryption key. • Once the password is verified, the Backup Key Vault will send the encryption key back to the WhatsApp client. •Tap Done, and wait for WhatsApp to prepare your end-to-end encrypted backup. Meta has removed end-to-end encryption support for Instagram direct messages starting May 8, 2026. End-to-end encryption prevents messages from being accessed by anyone except the sender and recipient, including the platform itself. The company added that users who want encrypted messaging can continue using WhatsApp, where end-to-end encryption is enabled by default.
