Microsoft has started rolling out a new “Xbox mode” for Windows 11 PCs, bringing a console-like gaming experience to laptops, desktops, and handheld devices. The Xbox mode for PC gaming establishes an immersive experience through its full-screen interface, which works with controllers while focusing on gaming content without any background interruptions. The system enables players to rapidly find and start games while they can toggle between desktop and gaming modes, and they can use a single library that contains both Xbox Game Pass and their installed PC games. Originally tested under the “full screen experience” name on handheld devices, Xbox mode has now expanded to select Windows 11 PCs in limited markets, with wider availability rolling out in the coming weeks. Microsoft says Xbox mode will continue to evolve based on player feedback as it pushes for a more unified gaming experience across devices. Microsoft announced that its next Xbox Developer_Direct broadcast will occur on January 22. Xbox Developer_Direct is where video games showcase new gameplay and updates on major titles launching this 2026.
