BDO Online implements One-Time Password via SMS

Listen to article

Earlier this week, BDO implemented a two-factor authentication with their online banking service. Aside from the personal password, BDO is also sending a one-time password (OTP) which customers use to be able to login to the online banking service.

This implementation is very similar to what GMail is offering with their 2-step verification process.

BDO has only introduced it this week and all customers have the option to enable this in their account profile. This means that aside from your usual personal password, another password is sent to you within minutes of the initial login.

The password automatically expires after 10 minutes so you will need to re-authenticate after that period. This security measure prevents incidents of password hacking or phishing and provides another layer or protection so we welcome this step from BDO.

It’s been implemented in middle East since long time and proven to be safe, since sim registration is also implemented. Bdo and other Philippine bank are bit too late in this feature.

Text messages were delayed (I’m a Smart postpaid subscriber). Expired na yung password bago mo pa magamit.

Good thing there is Challenge Question option.

It was already implemented in Citibank online dati pa. And for me, medyo kampante na din ako kasi I know nobody is checking on my citibank…yun lang kung may clone yung sim ko.

This means you can’t use this service while you’re out of the country unless you got roaming.
