Just two weeks from the announced acquisition of Groupon, the Beeconomic team has set up office in the Philippines (as Groupon Philippines) to strengthen its presence and get better deals from local retailers to offer to members.
Here’s a copy of the press release they sent just a while ago. No word on where the local office will be (update: it’s at La Fuerza Plaza, Don Chino Roces Ave., Makati City).
Groupon Philippines Press Release
Groupon normally negotiates between 50% to 90% off regular prices due to high group-buying power. Several other local group-buying sites have already made the same progress (to note, we’ve got Buyanihan, Awesome.ph and CashCashPinoy), all of which offer great deals as much as 92% off.
Beeconomic’s strength is in the health & beauty, events/activities, restaurants and services sector. They’ll obviously expand to other markets as they grow their local team.
About Beeconomic (Groupon Philippines)
Groupon’s recent entry into Asia was a huge move (after a buying spree in Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan) and it happened in the middle of a rumored acquisition by Google (reportedly at $6PHP 352INR 508EUR 6CNY 44 billion).
P.S. Beeconomic is actually pronounced as be-economic (not bee-conomic).
YugaTech.com is the largest and longest-running technology site in the Philippines. Originally established in October 2002, the site was transformed into a full-fledged technology platform in 2005.

Would this be the reason why they didn’t sold it to Google for $6 billion is because they’re expanding? Sounds like a real wise move!

Groupon’s pretty big now in our country. It’s the latest craze, yes?
The newest I heard that joined the bandwagon is http://www.winilacity.com! I wonder how this new player measure up to the oldies like Cashcahspinoy, ensogo and beeconomic.

GROUPON SUCKS. They have the strangest exchange policies and they put things in their website advertising how refunds are easy but what they don’t say is that you can never get it back in the form of your money but only in the form of Groupon credits! The customer service does the OPPOSITE of what a customer service representative (that is if you can actually get ahold of their customer service, getting them on the phone is a million times worse than calling a radio station most days) is supposed to do and does NOT listen to you, insults you, are arrogant and obviously hate doing their job. I was supposed to be refunded Php 4,200 and was told last last week that I would be refunded by Thursday last week. I called up Friday to ask what had happened and they gave me very vague replies and told me Monday early Morning this week, I would receive it, FOR SURE. Of course on Monday afternoon, there is still nothing deposited to my account so I call up on Tuesday to ask what had happened and they told me it was still being processed whereas last week one of the CSA’s told me it had already gone through processing and it was for deposit already! They told me that by Thursday, I would have it for sure and of course on Thursday, it STILL isn;t in my account. I called up and they told my hard-earned money would be in my account by Friday after lunch. Of course, IT WAS NOT in my account after checking a few minutes today and this rude guy named John told me that they would be emailing me the deposit slip within the day, I asked him to please give me reassurance that the money they have which is really mine to begin with since I did not avail of any of their services, would be in my account within the afternoon before four. I don’t even know what to expect anymore but Groupon i s a nightmare.,

I’ve been trying to call Groupon for several days now via what they claim is their… Incredible customer service of…
” Like you, we’ve suffered through hour-long “transfer-athons” with customer service departments, or waited days for an e-mail reply to a simple question. If you contact us, we’ll do what it takes to make things right – and we’ll do it fast. Email us at sup****@****.***, or speak with a human (during normal business hours) at 02 720 5929. That’s the Groupon Promise.”
It’s been over a month now and I have not heard anything from them. When will I ever get the ff orders:
– Paint Zoom
– Kenneth Cole New York Men’s Date Watch
Unfortunately, no one seems to be answering their phone. Is there any human behind that phone?? I guess it’s a Groupon’s broken promise. Groupon, if you can read this, please call me at 0917 5664000.

I ordered the Long Champ Navy Blue (large) you had on sale for P2,999. I’m depositing my payment on Monday, Sept. 24, 2012.
How do I know if its still available and confirm it you got my payment? And, when do I get the item?
Please let me know thru my gmail account.
Thanks.

Groupon? Oh come on! They are very nasty when it comes to policies. Oh poor businesses out there who fell into the traps of groupons. Anyway, here’s a better community management and rewards platform for every business. No commissions. All profits go to the cash register!
