Telegram now allows users to send Toncoin and purchase Bitcoin within the app.
The Open Network (TON) Foundation is behind the Toncoin and now has enabled users to send its cryptocurrency through Telegram, which has over half a billion users. It was showcased and announced through Twitter where a short video showed how transactions would work on the platform.

In order for you to send $TON, you would need to add Telegram’s Wallet bot in your attachment menu. This allows users to transfer and purchase cryptocurrency. Then when you’re ready to send crypto to a mate of yours, you can now click the Wallet bot in your chat and enter the amount of Toncoin you’d want to send.
This comes as news as last 2020, Telegram had been previously in hot water with the SEC over developing its own token. After reaching 1.7 billion USD of sales in Gram, the token that had been previously associated with the TON blockchain, the SEC deemed it as an illegal token offering after saying it had failed to register it as part of its pre-ICO. Later on, Telegram had been ordered to return its funds back to investors.

But after Telegram scrapped the TON project, a group of developers had kept it as a separate entity and had rebranded it. Telegram CEO Pavel Durov has now endorsed Toncoin and his support for the project with the TON foundation having recently raised 1 billion USD in donations from users of its project.
