0:00Honor is more popularly known for their
0:02mid-range and top spec models like the
0:04Honor 400 series and the magic series.
0:07But of course, the brand also offers
0:10more affordable models for those on a
0:12tighter budget. In this video, we’re
0:14looking at what could be Honor’s most
0:16affordable phone yet, the X5C Plus. But
0:20what does the Honor X5C Plus offer and
0:23is it the budget smartphone you should
0:25consider in 2026?
0:27Let’s find out.
0:29>> [music]
0:36>> The design of the Honor X5C Plus reminds
0:39us of the older iPhone models with the
0:41camera island situated on the upper left
0:44corner of the back panel. I mean,
0:47technically, it isn’t even an island
0:49because there are islands. So, I guess
0:53it’s an archipelago. Either way, it
0:55might look like it features a triple
0:57camera system, but don’t be fooled. The
1:00X5C only packs a single main shooter.
1:03More [music] on that later. As for the
1:05rest of the back panel, our review unit
1:07is in the ocean cyan color and it looks
1:10pretty good for those into baby blue.
1:12There is some sort of wave pattern here
1:14with a subtle color shifting effect
1:16depending on how the light hits it. We
1:19overall like the design, but some might
1:21prefer a cleaner look. The device’s
1:24dimensions have it land in plus-sized
1:26phone territory and it’s not exactly the
1:29most ergonomic to use, especially for
1:31smaller hands. The power button, which
1:33doubles as a fingerprint sensor and
1:35volume rocker, are situated a bit higher
1:38than we’d like, making it a bit hard to
1:40adjust the volume with just one hand.
1:42Meanwhile, at the bottom, there’s a 3.5
1:45mm audio jack, the primary
1:47noise-canceling mic for calls, a USB
1:49Type-C port, [music] and a mono
1:52loudspeaker. On the left side, there’s a
1:55dual nano SIM card tray with a dedicated
1:57microSD card slot, and found up top is
2:00its secondary microphone. The back panel
2:02and frame are made out of plastic, but
2:05it’s not cheap-feeling plastic. Even if
2:08you press hard on the back panel,
2:11there’s no flex. It feels very sturdy
2:15and seems like it would last a beating.
2:17And despite the blue gasket found in the
2:20SIM card tray, unfortunately, the X5C
2:23Plus does not come with an official IP
2:25rating. With that, we do not recommend
2:27submerging this phone in water or
2:29exposing it to the elements. Given the
2:32large size of the Honor X5C Plus,
2:34obviously, it also features a large
2:366.74-in display. It’s a rather basic
2:39display featuring a [music] TFT LCD
2:42panel with a full HD resolution and a 90
2:45Hz refresh rate. One thing we
2:47immediately noticed are the thick bezels
2:50all around. I mean, just look at that
2:54chin in 2026.
2:56It’s not symmetrical either with the top
2:58and bottom being thicker than the sides.
3:01There’s also a dot notch design for the
3:04front camera, which makes the phone look
3:06outdated. Despite that, it’s more than
3:08enough for watching videos on this
3:10phone. Even with just a 90 Hz refresh
3:12rate, users can have a decent [music]
3:14viewing experience with smooth
3:15animations. The colors aren’t the most
3:17vivid and can feel lacking, especially
3:20if you’re used to OLED or more
3:22higher-end displays. It’s also decent
3:24enough for playing games, but the 90 Hz
3:27refresh rate might be lacking for some
3:29users, but more on that later. As for
3:33the mono loudspeaker, it’s loud, but the
3:36sound quality isn’t that great. Like the
3:38display, it’s decent at best when the
3:41volume is around 50 to 75%.
3:44The quality gets even more distorted
3:46when the speaker [music] is maxed out.
3:48If you do decide to do that, it ends up
3:50sounding blown out and the balance
3:52between the mids, highs, and bass is
3:54muddied. Not to mention, there’s the
3:56possibility of accidentally covering the
3:58speaker with our fingers or our palms
4:00when we’re holding it like this. As for
4:04biometrics, there’s again the
4:06side-mounted fingerprint scanner.
4:08Despite the placement not being the most
4:11ergonomic for smaller hands, accuracy is
4:14good and recognition is quick for a
4:16side-mounted scanner. The device also
4:18features optical face unlock and it
4:20works as expected. As mentioned earlier,
4:23the rear camera layout makes it seem
4:26like the Honor X5C Plus features a
4:28triple rear camera system. [music]
4:29However, it only packs a single 50
4:31megapixel main shooter. The other two
4:34are an auxiliary lens and the flash. And
4:38at the front, there’s a 5 megapixel
4:41front camera for selfies. We had our
4:43reservations about the camera, but we
4:46were actually surprised by how this
4:48phone captures images. It’s more than
4:50decent for its class, especially when
4:52users leave it at 1x or 2x zoom. They’re
4:55sharp and feature decent contrast.
4:57However, there are times where the
4:59camera has a hard time focusing,
5:01especially when users try to take
5:03close-up images. We also don’t recommend
5:05going beyond 3x zoom as the drop in
5:07quality is very noticeable. [music]
5:09While the quality is decent, the images
5:12sometimes look overly edited. The colors
5:14of the leaves look a bit too saturated
5:16for our preferences, and in low light,
5:19the drop in image quality is quite
5:21obvious. There’s no dedicated night mode
5:23available either, which could have
5:25helped improve low-light images. As for
5:27videos, the X5C Plus records at a
5:29maximum of 1080p at 30 frames per
5:32second. The quality is very similar to
5:34that of the images where the colors can
5:36look very or overly saturated. There’s
5:39also no video stabilization option
5:41available. With that, [music] the
5:43footage can easily look shaky,
5:44especially if users don’t have the
5:46steadiest of hands. Under its panels,
5:49the Honor X5C Plus packs a MediaTek
5:51Helio G81 chipset. Our review unit came
5:54with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal
5:57storage, which is the only variant or
6:00configuration available for the
6:01Philippines. If storage is lacking,
6:04users can expand it further with the
6:06aforementioned dedicated microSD card
6:08slot. [music] In terms of performance,
6:09it’s not exactly the most powerful chip
6:11available, but it can handle most of our
6:14general productivity tasks. Users can
6:16also switch between apps quickly to get
6:18work done. However, if we leave too many
6:21tasks running in the background, it does
6:23start to slow down. But it is also worth
6:25mentioning that closing and reopening
6:27said apps quickly fix the issue. When it
6:30comes to games, it’s better suited for
6:32playing lighter titles like Mobile
6:34Legends. ML runs smoothly with the
6:36graphics set to medium, but there is
6:38some frame rate drops when the graphics
6:40are maxed out. While the phone can run
6:42more graphic-intensive titles like
6:44Genshin Impact, it’s not exactly the
6:46best experience. Even at the lowest
6:49settings, users will experience the
6:51occasional frame rate drops when just
6:52exploring the area. It can be used to
6:54complete dailies, but that’s about it.
6:57It’s not a great gaming experience,
6:58[music]
6:59but we do have to remember this is a
7:02budget smartphone. The same can be said
7:04for the benchmarks, which you should all
7:06be seeing on screen right now.
7:23The Honor X5C Plus runs on Magic OS 9
7:27based on Android
7:2915.
7:31For those who have used an Honor
7:33smartphone before, it feels very much
7:35the same as before. However, there’s no
7:38AI features available on this phone,
7:40which is as expected. We think of it as
7:43essentially the bare-bones version of
7:45Magic OS 9, which we’ve come to like
7:47from Honor. The UI is pretty clean and
7:50more importantly, it’s easy to use. As
7:53expected, there’s a bit of bloatware,
7:54but they are easy enough to uninstall.
7:57Some might feel disappointed with the
7:59lack of AI features, but [music] in
8:01hindsight, others may not even notice.
8:04Powering the Honor X5C Plus is a 5,260
8:08mA hour battery. It’s slightly larger
8:10than the typical 5,000 mA hour capacity
8:13we’re now more used to, and we didn’t
8:15actually expect it to translate to
8:17longer battery life. Luckily, this phone
8:20proved us wrong. Even after using it for
8:22an entire day [music] for running
8:23benchmarks, playing games, and taking
8:25photos, the battery barely dropped. The
8:29benchmarks also proved a similar story,
8:31recording 20 hours and 33 minutes using
8:34[music] PCMark Work 3.0 battery test.
8:36It’s great to know that users won’t have
8:38to recharge the X5C Plus that often
8:41because it does feature a slow charging
8:44rate at 15 W.
8:46As for connectivity, the X5C Plus
8:49features dual-band Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth
8:525.1, and 4G LTE. No 5G here or eSIM
8:56support either. Overall, there’s nothing
8:59too special about the Honor X5C Plus. It
9:02doesn’t have the durable capabilities of
9:04the X90, nor does it have the AI
9:07functions we’ve come to expect from
9:09Magic OS 9 and 10. The camera is decent,
9:13but the chipset is lacking, especially
9:15with only 4 GB of RAM. Thankfully, it
9:17makes up for it with its impressive
9:18battery life. But the biggest advantage
9:21of the Honor X5C Plus,
9:23the price. It retails for only 7,000
9:26pesos, which is affordable for someone
9:28just looking for great battery life. And
9:31for those of you really interested in
9:32the X5C Plus, [music]
9:34it does get an introductory promo price
9:36of 4,999
9:38[music] pesos, which makes it a serious
9:40contender in the budget segment. With
9:42that, there’s no doubt that the Honor
9:44X5C Plus is a good enough entry-level
9:46phone that gets the job done. Just don’t
9:49expect too much from it. But what do you
