0:00Now that the Samsung Galaxy Zfold 7 is
0:02out, we all can’t believe how thin it’s
0:05become. But aside from being thinner,
0:07it’s also a lot more capable. The cover
0:09screen is also bigger. This means you
0:11don’t have to open the main display that
0:13often anymore. Best of all, there’s a
0:15new 200 megapixel main camera. But if
0:18you’re currently using the Galaxy Zfold
0:216, is it worth it to upgrade to the
0:23slimmer ZFold 7? While there’s a lot of
0:27new stuff, the ZFold 7 is a lot more
0:29expensive, too. Well, fortunately, we
0:32have both of these phones. So, if you’re
0:34curious whether or not it’s worth the
0:35upgrade, I suggest you stay tuned to
0:38find out as we compare the new Samsung
0:40Galaxy Zfold 7 to the older Galaxy Zfold
0:446.
0:48[Music]
0:51Let’s kick things off with the design.
0:53In terms of styling, both the Galaxy
0:55ZFold 7 and the Galaxy ZFold 6 look
0:58almost identical. I mean, this is the
1:00signature Samsung design language after
1:02all. Both phones retain the familiar
1:04foldable form factor flat corners and
1:07the vertical layout for the triple rear
1:08camera system. In fact, the only styling
1:11difference would be the camera island
1:12and slightly redesigned camera lenses.
1:14But of course, the biggest or thinnest
1:17difference would be the thickness of the
1:19phones. The Galaxy ZFold 7 is thinner
1:21and lighter than the ZFold 6, shaving
1:23off a few grams and of course a lot of
1:26millimeters in terms of the thickness.
1:28As a result, this makes it a lot more
1:30comfortable to hold both folded and
1:33unfolded. However, you’ll feel it the
1:35most when it’s folded. It’s no longer
1:38bulky in your pants and it’s easier to
1:40use with one hand. Like the ZFold 6, the
1:43ZFold 7 still uses an aluminum frame
1:45with Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on the cover
1:47and back glass to keep the phone well
1:50protected. Together with a thinner body,
1:51the hinge has also been upgraded by
1:53Samsung to make it a lot sturdier.
1:55Because of this, the ZFold 7 is a bit
1:57harder to open. That being said, the
2:00Galaxy ZFold stick still feels solid and
2:03premium even to this day. It features
2:06again the an aluminum frame and Gorilla
2:07Glass Victus 2 on the outside. Now, as
2:10for other protection, Samsung retained
2:11the same IP 48 dust and water resistance
2:13for both of these devices. Overall, both
2:17models maintain Samsung’s signature
2:19flagship build quality and design, which
2:21is to be expected. But the slim design
2:23of the ZFold 7 is definitely a big
2:25improvement for everyday use. Moving on
2:28to the display, both the Fold 7 and Fold
2:306 have two screens, a cover screen and a
2:32larger main display. On the Fold 7, the
2:35cover screen now measures 6.5 in, while
2:38the main display measures 8 in. In
2:40comparison, the Fold 6 features a 6.3 in
2:43cover screen and 7.6 in main display.
2:46Despite the size increase, the displays
2:48are the same. They use a dynamic AMOLED
2:502X panel. Both displays also have the
2:52same 120 refresh rate, HDR10 Plus
2:55support with ultravid colors, giving
2:56users a very great viewing experience,
2:59whether folded or unfolded. Both phones
3:01also have the same peak brightness as of
3:032,600 nits for the main display and also
3:06the cover display. However, the small
3:08size increase on the Fold 7’s cover
3:10screen makes a big difference in terms
3:12of everyday usability. It no longer
3:14feels cramped to type on the cover
3:16display, and the same goes for browsing
3:18the net. You can definitely do a lot
3:20more without having to open the main
3:22display. As for the main display, the
3:24larger screen of the Fold 7 is a huge
3:28benefit for everyone. But what really
3:29sets it apart from the Fold 6 is the
3:32crease or lack thereof. You can barely
3:34see the crease anymore on the Fold 7. In
3:37fact, you need to be actively looking
3:38for it just so you can see it. That’s a
3:41big difference from the Fold 6 where the
3:42crease is still very much visible all
3:45throughout. In terms of audio, both
3:47models offer stereo speakers with Dolby
3:49Atmos. But here’s the interesting bit.
3:51The speakers of the Fold 7 are not as
3:53great as I expected it to be. It’s still
3:55loud, but the sound stage and overall
3:57quality isn’t as great as compared to
3:58the speakers of the Fold 6. For
4:00reference, the speakers on the Fold 6
4:02produce more depth, giving us a better
4:05listening experience. We suspect this
4:06has something to do with how thin
4:08Samsung made the Fold 7, meaning they
4:10may have replaced the speakers. So far,
4:13display and multimedia, the Galaxy Zfold
4:157’s new, larger displays are amazing to
4:18have, but do note there will be a drop
4:20in quality for the speakers as compared
4:21to the Fold 6. Just like the Galaxy
4:24Zfolds that came before, the ZFold 7 and
4:26the Fold 6 feature a triple rear camera
4:28setup. On the Fold 6, you have a 50
4:30megapixel main sensor, a 12AP ultrawide,
4:33and a 10 megapixel telephoto. On the
4:35Fold 7, the ultrawide, and telephoto are
4:37carried over. However, it gets a new 200
4:40megapixel main shooter, also found on
4:42the S25 Ultra. As a result, the photos
4:45captured by the Fold 7 now look a lot
4:47better than before. Although not as
4:49obvious in the day or in well-lit
4:50environments, the difference in quality
4:52is much more evident in low light or
4:53night photos. There’s also better bokeh
4:56on the Fold 72 without having to use
4:58portrait mode. In addition, the photos
5:00captured by the Fold 7 are slightly
5:01sharper and have better dynamic ranges
5:03compared to the Fold 6. Now, do note
5:05that this is for the main camera alone
5:07at 1x or 2x zoom. When you’re using the
5:10ultrawide or the telephoto, the quality
5:12are similar, which is what we expected
5:14because they’re the same lenses. As for
5:16video recording, the quality remains the
5:17same for both the Fold 6 and Fold 7,
5:20supporting up to 8K at 30 fps max and up
5:23to 4K at 60 fps with ultra steady turned
5:25on. Similar to the photos, the videos
5:27captured on the Fold 7 look sharper and
5:29there’s a lot less grain at night. But
5:31when you’re using the ultra wide or
5:33telephoto, they’re very much the same.
5:34If you’re not too picky when it comes to
5:36photos, the cameras on the Fold 6 are
5:37still decent. However, the cameras of
5:40the Fold 7 are definitely a lot more
5:42capable for photos and videos. Now,
5:44let’s talk about performance. The Galaxy
5:46Zfold 7 is powered by the new Snapdragon
5:498 Elite for Galaxy, while the ZFold 6
5:52runs on Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. Both of
5:55these chips are very capable and
5:56powerful, and as expected, the Fold 7 is
5:59a lot more powerful, as evidenced by the
6:01benchmark scores, 1.85 million versus
6:041.65 million on Antutu on the Fold 6.
6:07It’s a similar story when you check out
6:09the rest of the benchmarks. But in real
6:11world use though, the difference between
6:13the two isn’t that obvious. When playing
6:15games, both phones can run graphic
6:16intensive titles like Genchin on max
6:18settings without issues. No lags, no
6:21frame rate drops whatsoever. The same
6:23can be said for doing productivity
6:25tasks. Both phones can handle everything
6:27you throw at it, including running
6:29multiple apps in the background for all
6:31of your productivity needs. With that,
6:33it’s hard to say that the Fold 7 has a
6:35strong edge over the Fold 6. But here’s
6:38the thing. The Fold 7 heats up a lot
6:40faster as compared to the Fold 6. And
6:42just like the speakers, we suspect it
6:44has something to do with how thin this
6:46phone has become as compared to before.
6:49The important thing is the heat does not
6:51affect the game play or your
6:53productivity by any means. In terms of
6:55battery, not much has changed on paper.
6:58Both the Fold 7 and Fold 6 pack a 4,400
7:00MIA battery, so it’s the same. Charging
7:03speeds, well, they’re the same, too.
7:04Even though the chipsets are different,
7:06there’s not really a change in terms of
7:08battery life, as evidenced by our video
7:10loop benchmarks. Both the Fold 6 and
7:12Fold 7 are still relatively power-
7:15hungry. And from our experience, even
7:16when you’re not using the phone that
7:18often, you will find the battery slowly
7:20draining as the day passes. With that,
7:22if you’ve ever used the Fold 6 and
7:24you’re planning to switch to the Fold 7,
7:26you won’t really feel a difference in
7:27terms of battery life. Now we have to
7:29talk about the OS of the Fold 6 and the
7:33Fold 7. The Fold 7 runs on 1 UI 8 which
7:36is based on Android 16 out of the box.
7:38In comparison, the Fold 6 runs 1 UI7
7:41which is based on Android 15. There are
7:43a bunch of new features on 1 UI 8 on the
7:45Fold 7 which includes better integration
7:48of Gemini to name a few. However, 1 UI 8
7:51will also be coming to the Fold 6. So
7:53these features will also be carried over
7:55in the near future. So, nothing to write
7:57home too much about that. How do these
7:59two foldables compare? Overall, the
8:02ZFold 7 builds upon what the Fold 6 has
8:05laid out. But, as we expected from a
8:07newer model, it does offer better
8:09performance, new cameras, and a new UI.
8:12But best of all, it improves the iconic
8:15foldable design by making it a lot
8:16thinner than ever before. All of those
8:19new features come at the price, though.
8:20The Galaxy ZFold 7 starts at 112,990,000
8:24pesos for the base 12 + 256 GB variant,
8:28while the 12 + 512 GB variant retails
8:31for 120,990
8:33pesos. As for the 16 + 1 TB variant,
8:35that one retails for 141,990
8:39pesos. Now, in comparison, the ZFold 6
8:41started at just 105,990
8:44pesos for the 12 + 256 GB variant. If
8:48you plan to upgrade from the Fold 6, you
8:50can take advantage of Samsung’s trade-in
8:52promos and other deals to get the Fold 7
8:55for cheaper, but still you will be
8:58coughing up five digits worth of money.
9:00Honestly, if you don’t mind the new
9:02camera and the thinner design of the
9:03Fold 7, the Fold 6 is still a powerful
9:06and capable phone. With that said,
9:08upgrading might not be exactly necessary
9:11for you, especially if you want to save
9:12a bit. But if you want the latest and
9:14one of the best foldables on the market,
9:16who are these to stop you from buying
9:18the new Galaxy Zfold 7? So, are you
9:21upgrading to the Galaxy ZFold 7 or
9:24sticking to your Galaxy ZFold 6 for now?
